St. Pierre et Miquelon, Newfoundland and Labrador
Miquelon Island is in the French archipelago of St. Pierre and Miquelon and is located off the south coast of Newfoundland. The site consists of open sea off the north and east sides of the island of Miquelon, from the eastern side of the isthmus (Isthme de Langlade) to the waters around Cape Miquelon.
Although this site is in French territory, we have included it in the Canadian IBA program because the St. Pierre and Miquelon islands are very close to Canadian territory and are not covered by any other IBA program (including the European program).

Oil pollution is a potential threat because of the presence of a busy shipping route, commonly used by oil tankers en route to Come By Chance oil refinery via Placentia Bay. Over-hunting of Common Eiders is another possible threat.
